Retracing the footsteps of Genghis Khan

Perhaps the title should have read “hoof prints” of Genghis Khan instead of “footsteps”.

Anyway, this post is inspired by the Journey of Australian Tim Cope, who in 2006 made a SOLO journey lasting 2.5 years on horseback from Central Mongolia to the shores of the Danube river in modern day Hungary.

His journey is filled with adventure after adventure, including thieves, and several instances of “surviving the elements”. It’s also a story of the influence of Genghis Khan on the people of today’s Central Asia.

If you’re into travel, adventure, or would just like to learn more about the world, check out his series which is available FREE here on youtube (episode 1 only) and on  itunes (entire series).

I dream of doing  something like this myself (hah hah) but maybe for just a few months.

I’m coming up to the 1 year anniversary of my trip to Mongolia and other parts of Asia and I think about it (and the lessons I learned) daily. I’m currently studying elementary Russian (правда!) and thinking about another trip to Central Asia, this time with longer stay in Kyrgyzstan. The volunteer opportunities are scarce or require long (more than 2 week) commitments though and I haven’t really been able to find anything, or get a reply from those in which I’m interested.

Oh well, thanks for reading! Stay tuned and SUBSCRIBE for further insights or my next adventure!

This is THE ROVER, signing out….
