I woke up at 630 am and realized that I had slept with my mouth open. I felt my through was a little raw. After getting out of bed though, I realized that I was feeling weak. I did the morning ritual horse tracking and goat sorting, but by the end of those tasks I knew I wouldn’t be able to do the herding on horseback. I resorted to the handy dandy Mongolian phrase book:
This book which I bought on ebay for $4.00 was the only way I could communicate with my hosts besides body language. We taught each other phrases in English and Mongolian during my time there. It seems that they (and every other nomad that visited) were very interested in the phrase book and spent more time with it than I !!!
Anyway, I figured out how to say ” I’m feeling sick.” and “I’d like to rest.” They of course insisted I stay in. Just before coming to Mongolia I fell ill (as a result of the immunizations I received 😛 ) and went on a 3 day treatment of antibiotics. My fear was the treatment was not long enough and I was getting sick again.
I spent the rest of the morning sleeping which I found easy to do. Later that evening they were asking me if I needed to go to the closest town, Altanbulag to see a doctor. Durukh would have had to borrow a motorcycle and then we would have had to ride for about 1-1.5 hours in the cold to get there and see a non-english speaking doctor……I of course said “no that’s ok” and I wasn’t exactly feeling deathly ill.
I believe I just had a little bit of goat noodle soup that night and went to sleep again. I was starting to feel better in the evening (after a day’s rest) and hoped I wouldn’t wake up sick again in the morning.
