Day 6 afternoon and a “Boats” Dinner

After returning from the morning herding and having a quick lunch, I was again asked to pasture the goats. I think my usefulness is starting to come into play and Durukh and his wife Biyambai are starting to do things that (I’m guessing) usually can’t get to…..or so I would like to think. I noticed that Durukh is working more with the cattle and horses yesterday and today.

Anyway, the task of herding is still new to me. Here’s some clips from the afternoon. You can get an idea of how windy it is from the audio!

As the day winds down and the sun starts to set, I struggled with grouping the sheep/goats to return them to the corral. Biyambai eventually  came out and helped me do it. I realized later that I was starting to bring them in too early.  It makes sense since the vegetation is scarce that the sheep/goats want to spend every possible minute of daylight trying to graze, so they don’t want to go to the corral until the last possible minute!  I had an easier time later when I waited until it was just starting to get dark to bring them in.

I had a treat for dinner, which they told me was called “Boats” or I imagined the English word “Boats” when they said it ..hah hah 😛

Well in the English alphabet it’s spelled “Buuz” or “Бууз” in Cyrillic. I can’t remember if the filling was goat or horse, but it was one of the two. I didn’t get a picture, but here’s one from the web:

It was delicious!
